 Only qualified informants can register a death in Hounslow:

  • A relative of the deceased
  • A person present at the death
  • The person arranging the funeral (but not the undertaker.)
  • The occupier of the home or hospital.

Ideally bring a birth certificate, marriage certificate if relevant, and medical card of the deceased.  After registering a death in Hounslow, you will receive an authorisation for the funeral to proceed and a BD8 form for the DSS.

Copy death certificates should be bought at the time of registering a death in Hounslow – they are much cheaper then, so buy plenty.  Hounslow registrar only accepts cash or cheques at the time of writing.

If you wish to register a death which did not take place within the London Borough of Hounslow you should register the death at the register office covering the place in which the death happened.   If you cannot do so, you may register a death at another Registry Office, but this will delay things.

If English is not your first language, you could ask a friend or relative to help, but please you must register the death in person, a friend cannot do it for you.
